Style- James knows how to dress well. His wardrobe consists of expensive clothing. He could never be caught dead in ugly outdated clothes or colors that don't match. He believes he can make anything look good but he doesn't test that out too often.
Relations
Family:
-New Jersey/Jay. (Jay is James' younger brother that he loves to tease. As kids James hated Jay's guts to the point where he'd physically fight him. The fights stopped in their late teens and over time they slowly began to tolerate each other. Even though James thinks Jay can still be insanely annoying sometimes he still loves him. They're like best friends that hate each other some days and get along great all the other days.)
-Vermont/Evan. (James helped raise Evan although he doesn't talk to him that often. They don't have a lot in common and Evan likes Raimond more. James wishes they could have a better relationship but he prefers not to push it. He has yet to apologize for what he did to Evan in the past which makes things awkward between them.)
Significant Other:
-Virginia/Lauren. (They made their relationship official in the 1870s although they've been interested in each other since they were teens. In present day James loves her with all his heart and will try his best to keep her happy.)
Pets:
  -None.
Best Friend(s):
-Rhode Island/Ian (Ian is James' best friend. They've been friends since they were kids but didn't grow close until they were teens. They get mad at each other very often and have gone weeks without talking but eventually one of them breaks or completely forgets what happened. James loves Ian, hes always the first person he goes to to tell news.)
-Connecticut/Edison (James considers Edison one of his best friends completely unaware he doesn't think the same. James loves talking to him and has a blast every time they hang out. Edison is the only person James watches his mouth around. He has slipped and talked bad about his sister in the past which Edison spoke up about. Edison scared James so much that he remembers to think before he speaks around him. But only him.)
Friend(s):
-Pennsylvania/Brian. (They agree on a lot of things and enjoy each others company sometimes. They think its funny to flirt with each other although they have no interest.)
-New Hampshire/Raimond. (Raimond is James' ex. They started going out in the mid 1700s but weren't that close. They both raised Evan which caused some problems in their relationship since James didn't treat him that well. James didn't treat Raimond that well either. He constantly cheated on him and tried to blame Raimond for it. James had trouble figuring out his feelings, he wasn't sure if he had romantic feelings toward him or not and was afraid to commit to him if he did. They're relationship was on and off for years until they finally broke up for real. For a while after the breakup they still despised each other. They finally got over it almost a hundred years later. In the present day they still talk and are pretty chill with each other. They just don't mention what happened in the past.)
-California/Leo. (Leo and James are friends, at least most of the time. James enjoys hanging out with him and flirts with him a lot as a joke.)
Distant Friend(s):
-Delaware/Maxwell. (They never really spent time alone with each other but they act as friends when they're together, much to Max's dismay. James likes Max because he can ramble on and on for hours and Max will just sit and listen without interrupting... Or pretend like hes listening.)
Frenemies:
  -N/A
Disliked:
  -N/A
Enemies:
-Massachusetts/Elizabeth (There is nothing James and Elizabeth hate more than each other. They always find themselves competing against each other whether it be in sports, who has the best city, or dumb small things that don't even matter. They commonly find themselves having the complete opposite opinion or view causing them to hash it out. James loves to provoke and tease her until she is sent into a riot. Although they dislike each other, they can get along pretty well when put under certain circumstances but they'll never admit it.)
Speech
Voice Claim: Seth Macfarlane
Languages:
-Dutch. It was his first language and he spoke it for many years. He still remembers it and sometimes gossips with the other states who still remember the language.
-French. He's not too fluent in French but can still structure a sentence and make a bit of sense.
-English. He started learning English after becoming a colony under Great Britain.
-Spanish. He learned it only recently but can still mix up words from time to time.

-Italian. He’s pretty fluent in it and has fun speaking it. He sometimes catches himself cursing to himself in the language.

-Chinese. Although he can't properly speak it yet, he's still trying to learn. It’s more difficult than he predicted but he’s set on learning it no matter how long it takes.

Accent: A classic New York accent.
Misc.
Religion: Judaism. NY has the first highest jewish population in the USA and has always been accepting of other religions. He isn't as strict with following the rules as he used to be. Most Jews break the rule about eating pork and so does James. He just doesn't eat it during Jewish holidays.
Residence:
Main- A large penthouse in Manhattan. He spends the most time at this place and its his favorite out of all of them.
  Other-
-A two story house in Albany. He visits this one more often than his other secondary houses.
-An apartment in Buffalo. He doesn't visit this one that often but he still enjoys going.
-A small two story house in Ithaca. He visits this house the least out of all his other ones. He usually just goes here for a couple weeks at a time when he really needs to relax.
Vehicle(s):
-A dark gray Honda Accord. He usually drives this within his state and for small trips. He keeps it pretty clean and takes good care of it.
-A white Cadillac Escalade. He uses this car for longer road trips but still sometimes takes it for a quick drive to show it off.
Allergies: None.
Dominant Hand: Right handed.
Personality
Traits:
  Positive- Creative, outgoing, talkative.
Negative- Obnoxious, loud, selfish, egomaniac, immature, impatient, untrustworthy.
Overview: James is a very fun-loving and outgoing person. He’s always looking for a good time and is constantly entertaining himself and other people. It’s not rare for him to strike up a conversation with a stranger and keep it going for hours. Conversations with him never seem to go bland he always has something interesting to say. He tells stories and jokes in such a fun and dramatic way that keeps the listener and sometimes surrounding people invested in it. In fact almost everything he does is dramatic. He naturally overplays his reactions to make things more fun to him and to help him become the center of attention, which he almost always is.
Though James’ chatter can be amusing it’s not always great for people who aren’t present. He has no problem sharing gossip or juicy secrets he promised to keep, making him an untrustworthy person. He doesn’t believe in secrets. In fact he has very few himself. He has no sense of shame and will tell people very personal things no matter how close they are to him.
One of his most notable traits is his overly large ego. He seems to think he is the best of the best and better than anyone else in the world. He has no trouble sharing that with everyone either. He boasts and brags about himself constantly and always makes an attempt to one up everyone else. James’ large ego gets him in trouble from time to time. He doesn’t believe he can do anything wrong and fails to apologize for any of his wrong doings. He always knows how to turn the blame away from him and blame the other person instead. Very rarely in his life has he ever uttered the word “sorry.”
Although he seems to have a bright and preppy attitude he tends to look on the negative side of things often causing him to get stressed and upset easily. He is a very fast paced person and reacts quickly before he fully understands something. On the upside he can get over things easily but on the downside he always remembers. He forgives but he always holds a grudge until he gets revenge. He sometimes has over the top revenge plans but most of the time he just causes small inconveniences to the other person. Nobody can do him wrong and expect to just get away with it.
Overall, James may be unlikable to most but he has a sort of charm to him that keep people around him awaiting to see what he does next. He should never be taken seriously, almost everything he does or says is a joke. He loves making an ass of himself and others for entertainment. He enjoys seeing the reactions he gets whether they’re positive or negative. As long as he’s getting a reaction he’s happy.
Bad Habits: James has a very bad habit of rambling without thinking about what hes saying. This usually leads him to accidentally insult people or leak a secret he was asked to keep. He should never be trusted with secrets and most states know this and always find out the hard way. Way too often James finds his friends mad at him and he has no idea why. He just can't keep his mouth shut or think before he speaks.
As mentioned before, James has a lot of trouble with apologies. His lack of sympathy and accepting that he did wrong leads to him to lose friends and hurt people that he really loves. He tends to blame other people and has no idea that the problem is himself.
It may not be too bad of a habit but he also really loves drinking coffee and will drink it anytime of the day. He drinks more coffee than any of the other states which leads him to be hyper throughout the day. If he runs out of coffee it will automatically ruin his entire day.
Fears: James' biggest fear is being alone. He is afraid that one day nobody will have any interest in him and drop him. He constantly wants to be the center of attention and he fears a day will come where he will never be important again. Although his large ego won't let him think about this that often it still lingers in the back of his mind from time to time.
Interests
Talents: He is really good at playing chess. The first chess tournament was held in the state and hes been playing ever since.
Favorite Color: Blue and gold. The official state colors of New York are blue and gold. The colors are also seen on the state flag.
Favorite Animal: James' favorite animal is a beaver. Beavers have been the state animal of New York since 1975. He has a folder on his phone dedicated to pictures of them that hes gathered himself, online, and through friends. He likes to look at them when hes bored or feeling down.
He likes snapping turtles too which is the state reptile. If he sees some in the wild he'll try to pet them even though they try to bite him.
He also likes cows. New York has over 18,000 cattle farms. Also the first cattle ranch in the US was founded on Long Island.
Favorite Food(s): Pizza is his all time favorite. New York pizza is often described as one of the bests. Also the first ever pizzeria in America was opened in 1905 in NYC. He often brags about his pizza and refuses to eat pizza from other states.
He also enjoys the popular hot dogs in NY. Especially the Coney Island hot dogs. He gets one every time he goes there.
One of his favorite restaurants is Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. It originated in Syracuse and was popular in upstate New York until spreading to different states.
Apples and apple muffins are his favorite snacks. The state fruit and state muffin. Theres a lot of apple orchards in New York and James visits a lot of them in the fall. Speaking of fall, Cider Donuts are really popular in New York in autumn.
Loves oysters. Its his all time favorite seafood. In the 19th century New Yorkers ate so many oysters that the shells were used to pave streets in NYC.
For dessert he loves the ice cream from Stewarts, a popular convenience store in upstate NY. The ice cream there is pretty famous with the people that go there.
Favorite Drink(s): Coffee. New York consumes the most coffee out of all the other US states.
James also likes milkshakes. The worlds largest milkshake was made in New York. It was 6,000 gallons.
Favorite Flower: Rose. The state flower.
He also really likes orchids. New York is home to about 58 species of wild orchids.
Favorite Sports/Teams: Baseball and Football. His favorite teams are the Yankees and the Giants. He doesn't exactly care too much about his hockey teams but he will still brag if they win.
Other Likes:
-The Wizard of Oz. Chittenago is home to the author of the book. It has yellow brick sidewalks and Oz themed businesses. James has read the book more times than he can count. He just loves everything about it.
-Ladybugs. The state insect of New York is the nine spotted ladybug. He gets so upset when people try to kill them. He could never bring himself to do it.
-Visiting the zoo. The Bronx Zoo is the biggest city zoo in the USA. James loves to go and take lots and lots of pictures of all the animals there.
-Music. James loves all kinds of music especially rock, pop, and hip hop, but his all time favorite genre of music is jazz.
-Books/Reading. The New York public Library is the second largest library system in the US and has over 50 million books. Whenever he is by himself and has nobody to talk to he usually picks something up to read.
-Amusement parks and fairs. New York has a lot of amusement parks that are popular tourist attractions. It also has a popular fair in Syracuse that attracts people from all over the state. James tries his best to go to the fair every year and loves taking people to the other amusement parks in the state.
-Christmas. Despite being Jewish James loves Christmas. He finds the concept interesting and thinks the decorations are pretty. Rockefeller puts up a giant Christmas tree every year. Its a huge tourist attraction.
-Musicals and other plays. New York is home to the Broadway theatre a very popular theatre in America. James has seen most of the plays performed there.
Dislikes: James could never hate anything more than he hates the state of Massachusetts. He could never let the rivalry go. He hates MA drivers, MA cities, MA sports teams, anything. Hearing the word can just ruin his day.
James also dislikes dumb tourists. He loves tourists who are respectful and admire the state but can't stand people who go to New York and then complain how awful it is. It makes him upset and he can't help but to tell people like that off.
Although he hates traffic he can't seem to avoid it. He doesn't have the patience to wait in stop and go traffic for hours. Going out during rush hour is the worst.
And of course he dislikes boring events. He wants everything to be a party and goes insane if hes forced to sit through anything thats too boring.
Headcanons
Factual:

-He reads the newspaper every morning and is put in a bad mood if hes too busy and can't read it. A lot of newspapers were founded in New York including the New York Post which is the oldest running newspaper in the United States. He enjoys staying up to date on current events.

-He can make a killer pizza. New York is known for having good pizza. Many tourists go just to try it. Also it's home of the first pizzeria in the USA. James refuses to even touch other state’s pizza. He knows it’s not going to be as good as his own and he’s not afraid to tell others that.

-He isn't afraid of heights. He enjoys being up high. Represents tall buildings in NY cities. Well, he does live on the top floor in Manhattan so of course he doesn’t care. He thinks the views from up high are beautiful.

-He trades things with his friends often. NY has always been home to popular trading ports.

-Bites his friends if they piss him off enough. Or sometimes does it just as a joke. He would never do it to strangers though. Apparently New Yorkers bite people more times a year than sharks do. James will often threaten his friends with it he thinks it’s funny.

-A feminist. The first woman's rights convention in the US was held in Seneca Falls. He supports the movement entirely and is all for equality.

-He speaks a lot of languages. NY is the most linguistically diverse. Right after he learns one he wants to jump straight to learning another one. He wants to eventually learn every popular language no matter how long it’s gonna take. He has all the time in the world.

-Invests in a lot of stocks. The New York Stock Exchange is the largest exchange in the world.
-He's rich and doesn't have to worry about money. 1 out of 21 New Yorkers are millionaires. Also, New York is a very rich state. James brags about his wealth a lot. Although he likes to flex and show off he still picks up change off the ground and has a hard time wasting his money.

-He's always arguing with New Jersey about who owns the Statue of Liberty. The debate on this has been going on for centuries. The island is in New Jersey waters but the land is considered New York. New Jersey also provides the electricity which adds to the argument. James knows for a fact he owns it. Everyone always associates with New York and that’s enough proof for him. Number one rule: Never mention it when they’re in the same room.

-Always late to meetings and/or in a rush to get there. New Yorkers are stereotypically in a rush whenever they're driving. Or at least they act like they are. James always runs into traffic or waits until the last minute to leave the house. Most of his friends and DC know this so they always tell him a time 1-2 hours earlier than everyone else so he’ll actually be on time.
-Takes the train whenever he doesn't feel like driving. The first railroad in America ran between Albany and Schenectady. It relaxes him.
-Brags that NYC was once the capital of the United States. Although it doesn’t mean a whole lot he’s still pretty proud of it.
-Visits Niagara Falls every once in a while. The Niagara Reservation was the oldest state promoted tourist attraction in the USA. He sometimes goes by himself but most of the time he invites other states to join him. Mostly so they can take pictures of him.
-Never misses the winter Olympics. Lake Placid, New York is the only American city that has hosted the winter Olympics. Twice. He’s very proud of it and makes a whole event out of it every time it rolls around.
-Slips sometimes and calls Albany "Beverwijck" The Dutch name given to Albany when the Netherlands owned New York. It means "Beaver District." It happens so often other starts know what he’s talking about when he slips.

-Always wears his seatbelt when in the car. In NY 91% of drivers choose to wear their seatbelt when the national average is 87%. If someone hopped in James’ car and didn’t put on their seatbelt he’d freak out and attempt to strap them in for them.
-Isn't affected by snow. Sometimes makes fun of the southern states for freaking over an inch of snow. Upstate New York expects over a hundred inches of snow annually. James laughs in the face of mother nature. He’s not afraid of snow, in fact he loves it. He always finds new ways to make the most of it.
-Calls buffalo wings just "wings.” People from upstate are stereotyped to call them wings. James can’t help but to correct other states when they call them buffalo wings. He often goes into a rant about how it’s easier to just call them wings their the same thing.
-Spends most of Autumn in upstate New York or in New England. New Englanders often complain about New Yorkers coming to their states and watching the leaves change. They mostly complain because they’re loud and annoying which describes exactly how James acts. The New England states often try to ghost him in the fall so he won’t come and stay at their houses. But it’s always a failure because James always finds a way to see some leaves.
-Gets annoyed when people think New York City is the capital of New York State. Some people actually think NYC is the capital and not Albany. He doesn’t mind too much since he is really proud of the city but he can’t help but shake his head and correct someone if they make the sadly popular mistake.

Other:
-Has the wildest imagination. Hes able to make up ridiculous things on the spot.
-Gets really quiet when hes upset. Its rare for him to be quiet and usually when he is something is bothering him.
-Can imitate any accent perfectly. He likes using different accents to be funny and random. But mostly to mock other states.
-Gets upset when people make fun of his nose. He usually acts like he isn't bothered. Its one of the few things hes insecure about.
-Watches a lot of movies. Hes seen the classics and the awful ones no one has ever heard of.
-Acts the same when hes drunk except he gets more short tempered.
  -Tans pretty easily.
-Follows a lot of celebrity drama.
  -Sings pretty well.
-Had a stripper pole in his house for about a year before he broke it. He just used it for fun not for being sexy.
-Has a lot of twitter followers. He doesn't use his account as often as he used to though.
-Doesn't let other states call him "Jim." He'll make gagging noises in disgust and will ignore the person until they call him "James." The only people that are allowed to call him Jim are presidents and governors. James doesn't like it but they never seem to catch on.
-Other states call him a rat sometimes. James thinks its funny and doesn't mind it.
-Reads outloud. Especially books since he loves to hear himself talk.
